Rim Space Campaign

Introduction

[This should be enough background information for a New Player to feel marginally comfortable in designing a character for the campaign. It’s still very sketchy and does not yet, in my opinion, reach its goal. M. Resnick’s Santiago makes good preliminary reading.]

(Character Base: approx. 150. Disad limit: GM discretion)

Human Space is divided into two spheres: the Core which has been stagnant for thousands of years, and the Rim which is something of a “wild west” in space. People from the Rim are not welcome in the Core and the Core’s Imperial ships and forces are never seen in the Rim. There’s very little contact between the two sectors.

The technology level of the Core is high albeit unchanging. There is one University in the Core. There are a number of powerful Noble Houses each with some specialty or other. There is an Emperor. (At least the vid-casts show a man called the Emperor.)

There has been contact with alien races. The Empire tends to exterminate such, but some corporations have found it advantageous to maintain business relations with aliens out in the Rim.

Humans can be modified to above-normal standards. Political and social sanctions are put upon such people in the Core.

Have space ship, will travel. Travel between stars in spaceships is facilitated by installations known as Star Gates. There is no teleportation, no “beam me up, Scottie.”

What “law” there is on the Rim is embodied in the Rangers.
