Rim Space Campaign

Interlude          Art's Background

Questioning Art; Translation via Roks.

(1) Do you have any idea where the rest of your race is?

Do you want to contact them if they are still around?
How would you go about contacting them?
Art: "I have been listening and calling, there has been no answer. With the absence of fact, I can draw no credible theories.
Contact is not a matter of want, rather a matter of wholeness
Contact requires proximity."

(2) Why were you in the egg on the planet where we found you?

Did you put yourself there, was it accidental, or was it due to hostile intent?
Art: "I do not know, it may have been a surrogate construct built by those who understood only the purpose not the reason.
My 'sleep' was to facilitate my guidance of a 'spawning biology' which I entered willingly."

(3) If you did not put yourself in the egg, what were you doing before that?

Art: "It was my pleasure to have found 'material' which could be guided to sentience. I had labored for a while and taken periodic 'incubation' cycles to indulge in investigation into the Progenitors."

(4) Are there likely to be more such eggs around from which we could release others of your kind?

Art: "'Likely,' I am not sure. But should any be found, my sense of society would overcome my desire to wait."

(5) How does growing things that will never be born in bio-matrices result in a race being raised to sentience? That is, fixing Shepherd, Jamies's eyes, and un-fixing Jannisett's zot box seems a far cry from making something like Roks able to think intelligently (or, if Jannisett understands this multiple-brain thing, more than intelligently by her standards.)

Art: "How does growing things that will never be born in bio-matrices result in a race being raised to sentience? Your question seems to mix concepts. I will parse it in parts I think you reference. I am examining the race development through cell division and maturation. 'Born,' I do not use this term, because they mature outside of your race biology. This task is meant as instructive in order that my restoration of 'Shepherd' be as complete as I can make it. 'Shepherd's' sentience is in question only as it pertains to recovering his 'Self'."
