Spies In Space Campaign

961114          Training

Run Synopsis
[Marian is still absent. It appears that Teresa is seriously discommoded by space-sickness - every time we've been in space. :)]

There is no trouble on the flight to StarPort (although nigh half the passengers shipboard are Oriental. :)) Chantal spends some time composing a letter to her parents and sending it. [See: Chantal's Letter.]

Back in Catering. Sam is able to fill in answers for some of Robert's questions:

  1. What became of those who escaped the Lost City raid? It seems that a sand burrowing vehicle did manage to escape the city but, as it has only a 100 kilometer range, Martian military believes it to have failed to find sanctuary and so its occupants are presumed dead. Our Team notes that we found only one of the Lost Cities and that the others' whereabouts are unknown to the Martian military, therefore the escapees probably made it to Acapulco.
  2. Was the "cop"/APS agent who questioned Boris identified and apprehended? Yes to both questions. He was a real Martian cop recruited into the APS. He and his "goons" were arrested and incarcerated. However, due to an accident in the "air-scrubber" machinery in the jail, all persons in that portion of the jail died of CO2 poisoning. The bodies were identified.

Sam notes that all known APS agents have recently left StarPort.

We note that 2 complete bombs are still unaccounted for. Chantal wonders what part of a bomb could be assembled from a precise plaster casting. Robert notes that some bomb parts could have been incorporated into a plaster statue and asks Sam to check if there is a tour of "recently recovered" Martian art that could be identified with once belonging to the museum in the Lost City we visited.

Sam briefs the Team on its next assignment. It will be in two parts: first, training as part of a Spaceship crew to ready us for the second, manning a StarShip.

The spaceship is the Archimedes II, being fitted out by Milos Lanza, a chief scientist on a gravity waves project. He intends to take the AII out to the Oort Cloud, comet hunting, so that he can use the data there gathered to discount comet effects in his wave theory. We are to travel undercover as part of the ship's crew. There will be, in addition, 6 members of a Security Team who are directly responsible for Dr. Lanza. We will have codes with shich to identify ourselves to members of this Security Team if and when it proves necessary to do so. There will also be a Science Crew which includes at least 2 of Dr. Lanza's graduate students. It is believed that the entire crew is "safe", but Sam believes that there may be at least one enemy agent aboard. Our duty is to make sure that Dr. Lanza returns safely.

Chantal signs on at officer level as a pilot-trainee; Lyle is part of the weapons crew; Robert is part of the sensor crew; Boris is in shipping-and-handling. Boris will see that the extra gear we bring aboard is discretely stowed and undisturbed. Robert and Lyle compile a list of such gear.

The starships have been known to carry as few as 2 crewmen although, more usually, the crew consists of pilot, engineering, sensors, and weapons. Engineering can be further broken down into PowerPlant/Engines and Life Support/Internal Systems.

Amongst the things we request are data entries for Lyle's computer on all people that will be aboard the ship. It is noted that Dr. Lanza is a violinist (albeit of a quality different from what he seems to think he is) and a member of the Debunking Society.

EPs: 1 to be used in the shipboard training, Total 24, 6 of which are *.
    Brownie Pts: 0, Total 7.
Chantal spends 3 pts on Navigation, 1 pt on PS:Starship pilot.
